About

This website is a resource for people with the Inflammatory Bowel Disease called ulcerative colitis.  That’s the disease that I have.

The disease is one which is not talked about in high school among ordinary people, so once I was diagnosed with it, I thought it would be helpful for other people to see some answers to questions from my point of view as an ulcerative colitis patient.  I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in October of 2008, and there has been a ton of information I have learned about the disease since then.  Most importantly, I’ve learned how to control my symptoms with the use of diet.  There are details on that within the diet page of this website.

Feel free to write your own comments under the different posts when that is availalbe.  If you have had similar or different experiences, please feel free to note that down in the comments as well.  I am usually able to respond to any comments within 48 hours, and sometimes much faster if I am near the computer.

I am in no way a physician, nor should anything from this website be used as medical advice.  This website is simply a collection of writing of mine about my disease, and if it helps others, that is great news and makes me happy.

I currently live in the United States, however I have lived in the Czech Republic previously which is the country my wife is from.  Prior to being diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, I could be caught bike riding on a two month solo biking journey through Croatia, Bosnia, Italy and Slovenia.  And then a short while after that, I took part in a one month long Argentina solo bike/camping trip.  The final bike trip before being diagnosed was in Czech and Slovak Republics, and that was with my then girlfriend/ now wife.

It has been a bit of a bummer how ulcerative colitis stopped me from being the athlete that I am, but as I’ve been able to get things under control, I am getting back into the mix with sports and currently planning the next long range bike trip.  Columbia,Peru,Chile, get ready, I’ll see you soon.
